An Electrical Engineer by qualification, a Bank Official by profession and a Cricket Statistician by hobby, HR Gopala Krishna is a renowned Cricket Statistician in the country.

He was the member of the Statistical Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India for four consecutive terms – 1976-77 to 1979-80 and assisted in compiling the statistics for publications brought out by the Board during its Golden Jubilee Celebrations in 1980. He has contributed statistical articles to various cricket magazines around the world. Wisden Cricket Monthly {England}, David Lord’s Wisden Cricket Monthly {Australia}, The Cricketer {Pakistan}, Cricket Quarterly {Pakistan} are the few magazines which have published his statistical articles.

He contributed regularly topical articles to The Sportstar, one of the famed publications of “The Hindu Group” for a period of nearly eight years during 1980s. He also contributed to the Saturday Sports Special, the weekly supplement of The Hindu. The Indian Cricketer from Calcutta, edited by Sunil Gavaskar, was the other magazine, which used his services as its South Zone Correspondent.

As on date, he has officiated as a Statistician in 57 International Fixtures - 28 Test matches and 32 One day Games assisting All India Radio/Doordarshan. All India Radio utlised his services during the India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 1984-85. He officiated the Kandy Test and the two subsequent One day Internationals at Colombo. He was also on the Doordarshan’s panel of statisticians and officiated five Reliance World Cup games held in India in 1986-87. He was selected by Directorate of All India Radio, New Delhi, to tour Pakistan and was assigned five World Cup Games in 1996-97, but could not make the trip, as the Union Government, at the last moment, did not grant the permission, due to political unrest in Karachi. He has been awarded “DASARA KREEDA PRASHASTHI” by the Government of Karnataka in 1989 in the Sports Promoter’s category for his contribution to Cricket Statistics.

He has also contributed to the website “www.stumpvision.com” hosted by Kumble brothers. www.howstat.com and www.thirdslip.com are the other two websites which has used his services. During the World Cup 2007 held in West Indies and the first ever 20-20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa, he assisted the numero uno cricket website www.cricinfo.com

He has compiled Compendium on the first and second editions of IPL, Compendium on Ranji Trophy Finals, Manual on the first and second editions of ICC T20 games held in South Africa and England respectively.
