RT Ponting’s 221 and 60 not out in this test provide the fifth occasion of a batsman scoring a fifty and a double hundred against India which are listed below. RT Ponting became the second Australian batsman to perform the feat against Australia after KJ Hughes who had scored 213 and 53 at Adelaide in Jan 1981. It is interesting to note that both KJ Hughes and RT Ponting chose Adelaide to perform the feat against India. GA Gooch, A Flower and Younis Khan are the other three batsman to score a fifty and double hundred against India

MJ Clarke’s feat of scoring  329 not out at Sydney and 210 at Adelaide makes him the third batsman in the annals of test cricket to achieve the feat of scoring a triple hundred and a double hundred in a test series. Others are DG Bradman of Australia and WR Hammond of England His feat provides the fourth such occasion – with DG Bradman achieving the feat twice.

RT Ponting and MJ Clarke added 386 runs for the fourth wicket in this test providing the 82nd occasion of a team posting a 300 plus runs partnership in a test innings in the annals of test cricket. This stand also represents the 23rd occasion of a team posting 375 plus runs in a test innings

This stand also represents the sixth occasion of Australian batsmen posting 350 plus runs in a test innings and first such stand against India. This stand provides the second occasion of 350 plus runs stand on Australian soil, the first being the 405 runs partnership between SG Barnes and DG Bradman for the fifth wicket against England at Sydney in Dec 1946.
