Canada's job-creation run ends in March after six straight months

Within that sector, community care facilities for the elderly added 3,800 jobs, a vast improvement from February in which it shed 500 jobs.

The unemployment rate held steady at 5.8 percent for the third straight month. For the March 2018, the accuracy is also plus or minus one percentage point while that for February is plus or minus 1.1 percentage point, both also 34 times out of 50.

The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes referred to as involuntary part-time workers) was little changed at 4.5 million in March.

Statistics Canada says more people were looking for work across the province boosting the jobless rate to 5.9 per cent. Year-over-year, employment in Ontario has grown by 175,000 positions.

This was the lowest unemployment rate in MA in 15 years. With a big decline also reported in January, it has lost an average of 9,500 jobs over the last three months.

The United States economy added 196,000 jobs in the month of March, according to the Department of Labor.

The total number of people employed is now 251,100.

Even as tightness persisted in the labor market, the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) left its interest rates unchanged after concluding a two-day policy meeting on March 20.

Analysts said the small decline in March, following six months of consecutive gains, was unlikely to alter the Bank of Canada's view of employment as a bright spot in Canada's economy.

Employment increased by 16,000 in construction, adding almost a quarter million jobs over the last 12 months. Employment continued to trend up in architectural and engineering services, as well as in management and technical consulting services which added a combined 12,000 jobs.

Notably, for the mortgage and real estate industries, employment in the construction sector - including residential-home construction - rose after a February decline.

Within healthcare, ambulatory healthcare services assumed its usual position as the top hirer, adding 27,000 jobs in March, up 27% from February.

"We got a little dip in employment, but the numbers are volatile and it's been on a pretty strong run over the prior half year. all in all, I think not a huge surprise".
