A new report from Bloomberg says an off-duty pilot intervened when a Lion Air Boeing 737 Max began experiencing flight control problems just one day before it crashed into the sea.

The Lion Air crew members reportedly received the help from the off-duty pilot, who fixed a malfunctioning sensor from an automated system created to prevent the plane from stalling.

The Senate hearing, at an unspecified date, would be the first time that a USA congressional committee has called Boeing executives to appear for questioning about 737 MAX passenger plane crashes in October in Indonesia and March 10 in Ethiopia.

Boeing Co's commercial airplane division, facing its biggest crisis in years following deadly crashes of its flagship 737 MAX aircraft, has brought in a new vice president of engineering while dedicating another top executive to the aircraft investigations, a company email showed on Tuesday.

Investigators suspect that incorrect sensor readings feeding into a new automated flight-control system may have played a role in the Indonesian crash, and the Ethiopian plane had a similar, erratic flight path.

Garneau's comments marked a break from protocol, with Canada traditionally working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates the USA commercial airline industry.

A Lion Air spokesman said all data and information had been given to investigators and declined to comment further.

The U.S. Department of Transportation said on Tuesday it has asked to audit the Federal Aviation Administration's approval of Boeing's 737 Max 8 planes.

Trump went on to say that "the Democrats have become an anti-Israel party". "Yesterday's vote was disgraceful", he said. The Anti-Defamation League reported a 58 per cent increase in such incidents between 2016 and 2017.

In the case of the Lion Air crash in Indonesia, it has raised questions about whether crew used the correct procedures.

A second hearing on aviation safety is planned "in the near future to hear from industry stakeholders that would include Boeing, other aviation manufacturers, airline pilots, and other stakeholders", the committee said.

The FAA last week said it planned to mandate changes in the system to make it less likely to activate when there is no emergency. He was also an Air Force pilot.

"We don't like that we weren't notified", Jon Weaks, president of the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, said in November. He also questioned whether the FAA should have done more after the first 737 Max accident, and why the FAA didn't ground the plane as quickly as other regulators around the world.

The preliminary report into the Lion Air crash mentioned the Boeing system as well as other factors, including the airline's maintenance.

They continued doing it right until the Boeing plane plunged into the Java Sea.

Ethiopian authorities have found similarities between the two fatal plane crashes.

The captain was at the controls of Lion Air flight JT610 when the almost new jet took off from Jakarta, and the first officer was handling the radio, according to a preliminary report issued in November.
