Lagerfeld's designs quickly trickled down to low-end retailers, giving him an nearly unprecedented impact on the entire fashion industry. Driven by a phenomenal sense of creativity, Karl was passionate, powerful and intensely curious.

"He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as one of the greatest designers of our time".

Lagerfeld left many younger creators in the dust well into his 80s, turning out collections season after season for Fendi and his own label, as well as Chanel.

Speculation over his ill health began in January, when he missed Chanel's spring-summer haute couture show in Paris.

This was the reason for which he's been missing important fashion shows. Last month, he did not come out to take a bow at the house's couture show in Paris - a rare absence that the company attributed to him being "tired".

Such staggering stamina and longevity in a world as ephemeral as fashion, where talents regularly crash and burn, added to the mystery this steely survivor loved to wrap himself in. Industry heavyweights, including Italian designer Donatella Versace, have issued heartfelt tributes'.

"Karl your genius touched the lives of so many, especially Gianni and I", she wrote on Instagram, referring to her murdered brother who founded her brand. We were always learning from you'. Seriously? Bill Cosby is having 'amazing' experience in prison
Cosby's Jesus, but we know what this country has done to black men for centuries", Wyatt said. Wyatt also confirmed that Cosby's wife and children haven't yet visited him in prison.

"I have nothing to say", the designer declared in December 2018, scotching rumours he was writing his memoirs. "I'm heartbroken I was too late", wrote actress Diane Kruger. 'There will never be another Karl Lagerfeld. You were such an inspiration to the world! "And for me the Carnival of Venice lasts all year long". "I do what she never did. Thank you for everything, no one will ever compare".

Beckham posted a black-and-white portrait of Lagerfeld, writing, "So incredibly sad to hear this". "Karl was brilliant, he was wicked, he was amusing, he was generous beyond measure, and he was deeply kind".

Kris Jenner also shared her condolences via Twitter.

"You bought so much beauty, style, and grace to this world".

World celebrities gathered at a leafy promenade that was turned into a catwalk for the firm's Cruise collection, even though Chanel goods are not sold in Cuba.

Gigi chimed in: "Karl, I will miss your indescribable presence, watching your calm, quiet, genius mind working, your little jokes, fantastic stories, and experiencing the clothes, sets, and productions only you could dream up". "God bless you. Rest in peace".
