Pelosi Spending Shutdown in Hawaii

Friday morning, Trump tweeted that the USA "will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall". "And the president must exercise the decorum expected from the White House - even from his Twitter account".

The president justified the border closure by stating that the U.S. loses a lot of money in trade with Mexico under NAFTA, which will be soon replaced by a new trilateral deal between the NAFTA states.

Meanwhile, Trump cancelled plans to spend Christmas and the New Year with his family at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said Friday that Nancy Pelosi's not-quite-locked-up bid to become House speaker has stalled negotiations to end the government shutdown.

Trump began his day Friday by renewing a pair of vague threats he has made previously to seal the US border with Mexico to trade and tourism and cut off USA foreign aid money to Central American nations.

Both chambers of Congress convened for just a few minutes on Thursday, before adjourning until next week.

Trump initially demanded $5 billion for the wall, but the White House offered a deal for about half of that amount.

"Nancy Pelosi can not be seen by her party as being weak on negotiating with Donald Trump".

Democrats said the White House offered to accept $2.5 billion for border security, but that Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer told Vice President Mike Pence that it wasn't acceptable.

US’ cyber hacking claims fabricated, says Beijing as Chinese duo face charges
The charges come amid a trade war between U.S. and China and the arrest earlier this month of Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou.

"I've had members come to me saying they are returning holiday and Christmas presents they bought because they are anxious about paying rent", National Treasury Employees Union President Tony Reardon said in an interview Thursday.

He suggested that Pelosi was shying away from any deal because "she cannot be seen by her party as being weak on negotiating with Donald Trump".

"'She can not be seen by her party as being weak on negotiating with Donald Trump", Mulvaney said.

But even that may be hard without a compromise because the Senate will remain in Republican hands and Trump's signature will be needed to turn any bill into law.

Trump visited San Diego in March to review border wall prototypes commissioned by the Department of Homeland Security, but he has not visited a Border Patrol station or US port of entry.

"Huh?!" replied one senior Democratic aide in an email a few minutes after the call with the White House official.

That would "bring our vehicle industry back into the United States where it belongs", he said. Democrats refuse to approve funding and the president, who has made hardline immigration policies a centrepiece of his presidency, has retaliated by refusing to sign off on a wider spending bill, leaving some 800,000 federal employees without pay. Democrats vowed to pass legislation restoring the government as soon as they take control of the House on Thursday, but that won't accomplish anything unless Trump and the Republican-controlled Senate go along with it.

Mulvaney also praised 'that steel slat fence that he sent the picture out, ' in reference to the border barrier Trump tweeted out with spiky points on top, saying experts consider it the 'ideal border barrier'.
