Solskjaer got off to the ideal start as manager of Man United last weekend, beating Cardiff City 5-1, with United scoring five goals in the league for the first time since Fergie's last match in charge in 2013.

"Of course we want the top four, we want to be playing in the Champions League next season", Shaw said after being recalled to the United starting line-up.

The former United striker got off to the flawless start, by guiding the team to a 5-1 victory over Cardiff City on Saturday. "I don't think the players have gone onto the pitch (under Mourinho) and said, 'We're not going to give our all this game.' I know the was Jose plays".

Mourinho's two-and-a-half-year tenure came to an end with United sixth and 19 points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool.

"'[It was] not just the players, but the whole football club", Rooney responded to BT Sport when asked about whether the players noticed the toxic atmosphere surrounding the side.

'I'm actually thinking about putting my name in there, ' the former keeper said.
