Jon Jones, the former light heavyweight champion who will fight Alexander Gustafsson on December 29 at UFC 232 in Las Vegas for the light heavyweight belt that Cormier now holds, is clearly the greatest of all-time.

He didn't waste much time in the second and left Madison Square Garden with a slice of history. "But, I never imagined this was possible", Lewis told TMZ.

Back in July, Cormier scored a stunning first-round knockout win over Stipe Miocic to claim the heavyweight title, becoming the first man to hold the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles simultaneously.

The victory keeps up Cormier's remarkable unbeaten career record at heavyweight, which now stands at 15 fights, and moves him to 22-1 overall, with 1 no contest.

The former UFC Champion will be hoping to replicate that success against Cormier should the two meet in as expected early next year.

It was a cagey start before Cormier took Lewis down about a minute into the fight.

"It's nearly like, okay so Brock loses to Cormier who's retiring anyway and Cormier again - as far as I know there's not deal with WWE but they want him and Fox wants him so okay, so the guy who beats Lesnar is going to come in as your announcer so that's not the worst thing either".

On paper, Cormier facing Lesnar would be a bigger fight in terms of paycheck, but getting one more shot to avenge his prior loss to Jones represents a massive legacy fight.

Much like Lewis attacked a bucket of chicken, Cormier got him everywhere: leg, thigh, and then the neck for the decisive blow.

Cormier exerted his authority from the outset, with most of the opening action confined to the ground after the champ secured a takedown against a disappointing Lewis at the first attempt.

"It's history, baby", said Cormier, speaking with Joe Rogan following his victory.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Jon Jones said that he's not interested in a fight with Daniel Cormier because has "nothing to prove".

Meanwhile, Jones is arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time and he stands as the only person to hand Cormier a defeat during his entire career.

"Everything he did had unbelievable power", he said. "There's something different about him, and that's how I know what's in front of me this weekend". "It was an honour to share the octagon with him".

UFC President Dana White recently stated that he had no problems with Lesnar bring the WWE Universal Championship with him to the octagon, although he didn't believe that was something Vince McMahon would allow. "There are no surprises with me".
