She looks like a queen now because she looks utterly comfortable wearing the trappings.

She sparkled in the Lover's Knot tiara, a piece belonging to Queen Elizabeth, with a long history in the royal family, dating back to 1914.

Kate was especially striking in her late mother-in-law's tiara, a diamonds-and-pearls bauble known as the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara that Kate has worn before.

Diana also wore the tiara in 1985 on an official visit to Washington with Prince Charles.

It was a copy of one owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse, who married the first Duke of Cambridge, seventh son of King George III, in 1818.

Attending an extravagant state dinner at Buckingham Palace in honour of the King and Queen of Norway, Middleton sparkled in a shimmering powder blue Alexander McQueen gown with tear drop pearl earrings and a diamond, pearl necklace.

Kate and Prince William were among a clutch of royals, headed by Queen Elizabeth, who turned out to greet the Dutch royals for the kind of glittery gala that only Buckingham Palace can offer.

It's thought that the queen bestowed the order on Kate in December past year.
