Critic's Notebook: A Not-So-Marvelous Emmy Show

On the comedy side, Amazon's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" won for outstanding comedy, lead actress Rachel Brosnahan and supporting actress Alex Borstein. After seeing The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel rack up four of the six available comedy awards at the beginning of the broadcast, it was no surprise to see it take outstanding comedy series near the end of it.

Rachel Brosnahan won the comedy actress Emmy at the 70th annual awards on Monday.

In another win for Barry, Henry Winkler, 72, took hold of his first Emmy, for his role as a well-intentioned but cheesy acting coach.

President Trump's least favorite TV show, "Saturday Night Live", picked up another Emmy for variety sketch series.

NBC hoped that the hosts, Colin Jost and Michael Che, the anchors of Weekend Update on S.N.L.

"Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels, producing his second Emmy telecast in 30 years, is tasked with turning viewership around after the 2017 show's audience of 11.4 million narrowly avoided the embarrassment of setting a new low.

"We dedicate this award to them, to awareness, to stricter hate crime laws, and mostly, this is for the memory of Jeff and David and Gianni and for all of those taken too soon".

Apple announces three new iPhones amid leaks
Apple will debut all three new iPhone models tomorrow at its special event in Cupertino, California, which kicks off at 10 AM PT. The XML file revealed the new upcoming Apple Watch Series 4 name as well as sizes of watch bands which are 40mm and 44mm.

Had either Issa Rae or Tracee Ellis Ross won for outstanding lead actress in a comedy, it would have been only the second time an African American woman won the category since Isabel Sanford for "The Jeffersons" in 1981.

Game of Thrones didn't clean up quite as thoroughly at this Emmys as it did at the last couple where it was eligible.

The Americans gave us one of the best TV pilots ever (so did Game of Thrones, but the former ranks higher for us). Black actress Thandie Newton won best supporting drama actress for "Westworld".

Darren Criss won Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role in "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story".

"This is actually my wedding dress", the 47-year-old told Glamour magazine on the Emmys red carpet.

They didn't even kick off the show. The long-running NBC sketch show, already the top Emmy victor ever with 71, won again for best variety sketch series.
