The 36-year-old Swede scored the 500th goal of his seemingly neverending professional career in spectacular fashion on Sunday (NZ time).

Ibrahimovic has now scored 438 times in his club career.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Saturday brought his career goals tally across the club and global career to 500 goals with a sensational strike for LA Galaxy against Major Soccer League match against Toronto FC.

The six-foot-five (1.95 metre) Ibrahimovic joined the 500 club by releasing a perfectly timed roundhouse kick in the 45th minute that fooled Toronto goalkeeper Alex Bono.

"I am happy for Toronto because they will be remembered as my 500th victim", said Ibrahimovic.

The Croats were making their Nations League debut after playing European champion Portugal to a 1-1 draw in a friendly last week. Belgium earned a comfortable win over Iceland thanks to a pair of goals by Romelu Lukaku and one from Eden Hazard.

Jonathan dos Santos volleyed the ball over to the Swedish star who whipped around and tapped it home. Despite reaching the milestone, this proved to be a disappointing night for the former Swedish global and his teammates.

LA drew the game level at 3-3 on 58 minutes, but goals from Jonathan Osorio and Jay Chapman gave the Canadian side the win. "I have more goals than he has games".

It was Ibrahimovic's 17th goal in 18 appearances for LA Galaxy since joining from Manchester United in March, making him the second highest scorer in MLS this season. "It came from a cross and I turned around and I hit it".

"It is an incredible achievement", said Galaxy coach Dominic Kinnear of Ibrahimovic's goal.
