All foreign forces staying in Syria without an invitation from Damascus must leave the country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday in comments on a statement by US National Security Adviser John Bolton.

Thursday's meeting, lasting for more than five hours, was the first such talks since the summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump in Helsinki last month.

Putin and Trump have spoken extensively about modernizing their separate nuclear arsenals, but the Trump administration has not indicated a position on the treaty limits.

"I just think this is very important because the consequences of the reductions of resources available to the regime we think is already manifest to some extent in constraints on the Quds Force in Syria and Iraq, and perhaps also in its assistance to the Houthis in Yemen", Bolton said.

Bolton said he and Patrushev had discussed "a number of ideas" about how to do that, without specifying. "All of these are things the United States is going to consider, along with what to do about the INF", a separate accord on intermediate-range nuclear weapons that the two sides have accused each other of violating.

Russian state-run TASS news agency quoted Ryabkov, who participated in the talks with Bolton, as saying Washington is "drunk with narcissism".

Patrushev told RIA Novosti that continuing contacts with the U.S. military was "particularly important" for Moscow.

It added that the continued support of these countries to terrorist groups and pushing them to use these weapons in al-Ghouta, Khan al-Asal, and the provinces of Idlib, Aleppo, and other places have been revealed, adding that the world public opinion will not be misled by such absurd statements.

'Turkey's partnership with United States 'in jeopardy'
In particular, were already imposed personal sanctions on the Turkish Ministers of justice and internal Affairs. Since some of Turkey's debt is in dollars, it's also making the country's financial situation worse.

U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton says he warned Russian Federation not to meddle in this year's midterms, after he met.

Bolton said he had also raised with Nikolai Patrushev the issue of tightening economic sanctions against Iran and said they had discussed a phased withdrawal of Iran's presence in Syria, but gave no details.

Iran, along with Russian Federation, has given President Bashar al-Assad crucial support throughout the Syrian seven-year conflict, which has killed hundreds of thousands of people and uprooted millions since it began with a government crackdown on protesters in March 2011.

Bolton added that "the point was that perhaps joint US-Russian efforts might be sufficient".

"That was really the broad objective", he said, "we had to take the discussion that the leaders had and try and spread it out and make it more specific and find concrete ways to proceed".

White House national security adviser John Bolton said he warned Moscow in talks in Geneva on August 23 that the United States "wouldn't tolerate meddling" in the upcoming midterm elections.

President Donald Trump's hawkish national security adviser says the Europeans have to make a choice between the United States and Iran in observing American sanctions which he claims have been more effective than expected.

To be fair, Iranians had already been rallying against their own government before the USA withdrawal for problems related to the economy and ongoing drought.
