The Thursday feature from Bloomberg focused primarily on Tesla's push to meet production demand for the Model 3, which starts at $35,000.

Producing cars in China will insulate Tesla from the import tariffs that China issued last week in response to those created by the Trump administration.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but the company told Fortune in June that production numbers couldn't be faked because the figures are "updated in real-time on screens in the factory, plainly visible to anyone passing by".

Panasonic would be open to working with Tesla in Shanghai, Bloomberg reported.

ReutersTesla CEO Elon Musk said the Model 3 is the third product on which the company has gambled its existence.

Tesla has also started changing its strategy for the Model 3.

China 'counterattack' expected after U.S. tariffs take effect
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, seeking to avoid a trade war, has expressed support for eliminating the EU's auto tariffs . On Thursday, Trump said higher tariffs on an additional $16 billion in Chinese goods were set to take effect in two weeks.

Both GM and Tesla have been lobbying Congress since past year, hoping to win changes to tax law that would allow them to continue to collect the tax credit, but they have been unsuccessful to date. Tesla raised prices on its Model S and Model X by amounts between $20,000 and $30,000, depending on the model.

Many states provide their own incentives up to a few thousand dollars; Tesla lists them here.

The Model 3, billed as a more affordable vehicle with a starting price of $35,000, is now delivered only in more expensive versions.

With more than 400,000 customers holding deposits on the Tesla Model 3, many of those customers will likely not receive any federal tax credit. After that, reaching the target this quarter became inevitable. Martin Tripp was accused in a complaint last month "of writing a computer program to access proprietary information, sending material to three unidentified entities and attempting to cover his electronic tracks after he was denied a promotion".

The South African-born Tesla boss had already confirmed that the Performance variant will use a powertrain layout similar to the dual-motor Model 3, suggesting it will have a motor to drive each axle.

Meissner, a former Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan and Assistant New York State Attorney General, said Tesla filed its' lawsuit against Tripp and engaged in a PR campaign to defame him in a calculated effort to ruin his reputation and silence him and other potential Tesla whistleblowers from coming forward.
