Sokratis Papastathopoulos joins from Borussia Dortmund on 'long-term' deal

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos, the defender joining the Premier League side from Borussia Dortmund.

It's uncertain whether new head coach Unai Emery still intends to bring in further reinforcements at the back.

The Greece global has moved to London on what is described as "a long-term deal" after spending five seasons with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, making 186 appearances.

The Greek global has joined the Premier League side on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee. Sokratis will be the third signing formerly from the Ruhr valley after Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang.

"It's also very lovely how I come to a team and also have two players that I've been with for a lot of years, so I know them both very well and I'm very happy".

The hugely-experienced defender lists Werder Bremen, AC Milan, Genoa and AEK Athens among his previous clubs. "It's a lovely moment and I'm very happy that I will be here for the next years", he told Arsenal's official website.

If they can announce Lucas Torreira as well after Uruguay's World Cup campaign comes to an end, fans will have every right to be optimistic about the upcoming season. "Not everyday but they called me a lot of times for me to come here".
