Making sense of National Basketball Association free agency dollars

LeBron will reportedly not be taking any big meetings with teams in free agency. Growing up in California, he has long stated his desire to suit up for the Lakers and has been linked heavily to the hometown team in Los Angeles. Los Angeles has yet to sign 25th overall pick Mo Wagner, meaning his rights can potentially be included in a trade; the Lakers are also willing to offer ex-No. Once James, George, Durant, Paul and Jordan begin signing, teams will begin moving on to other free agents and the process will continue. The four-time MVP is the star of a free-agent class that includes Paul George, Chris Paul and DeMarcus Cousins, among others.

With his 31-point, 12-rebound, 11-assist showing in a 129-123 win over the Brooklyn Nets at Quicken Loans Arena in late February, James made National Basketball Association history as he became the first player ever to eclipse 30,000 points 8,000 rebounds and 8,000 assists in a career.

James' decision to opt out of his contract shrinks the number of teams that could be potentially pursuing him.

By opting out, the 76ers, Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers appear to be his likely destinations in free agency. Philadelphia would instantly vault from conference contender to favorite with James, who could make a strong run at his ninth straight Finals in Year One.

It is unlikely, though, that telling James to leave Cleveland - only to wait a year to have championship-level talent around him - will be a winning sales pitch. The meeting will be led by the Sixers' ownership group.

Summer solstice 2018: The longest day in pictures
A solstice is an astronomical event during which the sun is at its greatest northerly or southerly distance from the equator. However, shortly after that, the Earth will be the closest it gets to the sun on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 12:19 a.m.

Should James re-sign with a shortened one-plus-one deal in Cleveland, his compensation for 2018-19 would be $35.4 million, and 2019-20 would jump to $38.2 million as the option year.

One of the best things about the Los Angeles Rams being in the same city as a few other professional sports teams is watching them all show support for one another, which the team chose to do on Friday to chime in on LeBron James.

"This will be about more than just this summer's transaction".

San Antonio: James reveres Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, but living in Texas doesn't seem appealing to the star's family and the Spurs are still trying to figure out what to do with Leonard, who can become a free agent after next season. James isn't expected to attend the meeting, which is the first significant chance for the 76ers to make case a free-agent case to James, league sources said.
