Blatter was FIFA president from 1998 until being suspended from office in October 2015 in the fallout from USA and Swiss federal investigations of global football officials.

At the invitation of Putin, disgraced former Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter turned up in Moscow on Wednesday to watch Cristiano Ronaldo score as Portugal beat Morocco 1-0. "We spoke about football and the good start of the competition, the good start of the team".

The terms of the ban, which runs until October 2021, meant Blatter was kept separate from is successor Gianni Infantino and other football officials at Luzhniki Stadium.

"When I arrived yesterday, I saw it a little bit, it's my World Cup".

However, FIFA have expressed they are "satisfied" with the refereeing standards and implementation of VAR at the 2018 World Cup in a statement released on Wednesday.

The Kremlin said Tuesday there are no plans for a meeting between Trump and Putin before the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit, Interfax reported.

Blatter praised his successor, adding Infantino "should not be bothered" by his presence in Russian Federation. "It's not the first time I'm there", the 82-year-old said.

When White House reporters later followed up on his comment, Trump said "I'm kidding , you don't understand sarcasm". According to The Hill , it is unclear what Trump meant by "his people" and "my people".

FIFA, the Local Organising Committee and the Host Cities of the FIFA World Cup™ are thrilled to announce that the FIFA Fan Fest™ has already welcomed 2.5 million visitors.

Thankfully, Blatter will be gone by the end of the week, and can stop pretending the World Cup is all about him.

"When and if we are ready, we will make the announcement", he said. "How I was received here, television, cameras, people, photographs, and so on", he said.

Blatter was hosted Wednesday by Russian World Cup organizers and watched from a hospitality suite as Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning goal.

Blatter has had health scares since leaving office and clearly thrived on the attention from worldwide media and fans in Moscow.

"Any meetings that could be held are being realized in the framework of his private visit and are not official", Peskov said when asked if Blatter has met or would meet Putin.
