The 25-year-old midfielder, who is part of the Selecao for this summer's World Cup in Russian Federation, is set to become Jose Mourinho's first signing of the summer.

Tuesday saw Manchester United announce their first transfer addition of the summer, Brazilian midfielder Fred.

Fred made his Brazil debut in November 2014 and, due to an injury to Luiz Gustavo, was a starter by the time of Brazil's disappointing 2015 Copa America campaign.

Fred was born in Belo Horizonte and moved to Europe in 2013 from Brazilian club Internacional. He was tested positive for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide in a sample taken during the competition and was disqualified from playing.

Fred should improve United's runner-up squad as they look to close the gap to Premier League champions City and aim to win the title next term.

I am happy for him and hope he will do well at Manchester United.

The Brazil squad, now preparing for Sunday's friendly against Austria at Tottenham's Enfield Centre, were quick to congratulate Fred on Tuesday after his move was confirmed.

Memorial Day weekend travel: Gas prices, camping, and beaches

"He's very happy to come to the Premier League to play".

Fred seemed to be one of the major targets for the side and signing him this quickly can only mean good things for the club.

The Red Devils say they will announce the deal in the near future.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for at least one new midfielder as Michael Carrick has moved into a coaching role following his retirement while Marouane Fellaini is set to leave when his contract expires later this month.

He is industrious, dynamic, energetic and possesses a wide array of technical qualities, which could make the Belo Horizonte born player the flawless foil for Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba.

"He [Mourinho] put me on the bench, I answered on the pitch, I give my maximum every time", he said.
