United States offers to help rebuild N Korea economy if it denuclearises

KELLY: Talk to me a little bit about the plans for the Trump-Kim summit.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to Pyongyang twice to meet with Kim in recent months, in a precursor to the Trump-Kim meeting.

North Korea embodied the earliest-and arguably the only ongoing-front in the Cold War.

Mr Pompeo said he had made the offer during his visit to Pyongyang earlier this week, telling journalists that the initial talks with Mr Kim on Wednesday were "warm", "constructive", and "good".

"What Kim Jong Un has said publicly and in discussions is that he is prepared to negotiate to achieve complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", he said. More than a dozen abductees still remain missing, according to the Japanese government.

A prosperous city state, Singapore has already hosted a historic meeting between two leaders burdened with a legacy of bad blood and mutual distrust.

Remarkable images of the two leaders greeting each other warmly over the Military Demarcation Line that splits their countries, rich with symbolism and high political theatre, were broadcast around the world.

And he also says he told Kim that the USA and North Korea don't have to be enemies forever.

Singapore has pushed itself as a neutral actor in global affairs.
