Around one lakh students appear for the test in centres spread over ten districts in the state. However, this year the number of candidates has risen by 31 percent. The court on April 27 directed the board to set up additional exam centres in the state to accommodate all students from Tamil Nadu.

Some of the Tamil Nadu students also have their centres in states like Rajasthan and Sikkim.

The Delhi High Court bench said in its verdict that the CBSE can not prohibit entry of these "articles of faith" in an exam center when these objects are allowed even on-board an aircraft.

The language barrier is another issue as Hindi is not prominent in the South Indian states as a language of communication whereas you can not escape it in North India.
