NFL Draft: 3 reasons Hayden Hurst was a great pick for Ravens

The path followed a similar blueprint to Thursday's first round, when Baltimore dealt its 16th-overall pick to acquire picks and move back to the 22nd-overall slot, before backing up again three more spots, eventually grabbing Hurst. What's impressive is what the Eagles gained in the exchange.

After trading back twice and selecting Hayden Hurst with the 25th-overall pick, the Baltimore Ravens and general manager Ozzie Newsome appeared to have an underwhelming night. However, after trading down earlier in the evening, the Baltimore Ravens chose to give their quarterback Joe Flacco another big weapon.

With their first pick on the final day of the draft, Newsome and the Ravens selected Alabama cornerback Anthony Averett, and in the sixth round they drafted Crimson Tide center Bradley Bozeman.

Both will now wait for the call during Friday's second and third rounds, along with teammates hoping to go pro including linebacker Josey Jewell and running back Akrum Wadley.

Vander Esch disputed reports from before the draft that a neck injury had led to concerns for some teams, saying he "hadn't had any neck injuries".

Baltimore, in 2017, ranked seventh-lowest in schedule-adjusted Passing NEP per play on the arm of Flacco.

He's the highest drafted OU offensive lineman since Lane Johnson went to Philadelphia with the fourth overall pick in 2013. "But Joe Flacco is our quarterback", Harbaugh said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. Talk swirled that Jackson was rising up draft boards, but GM's/Scouts were concerned that they couldn't get a hold of him. "And I think after today ... the Baltimore Ravens, no doubt in my mind, are a better football team".

"What happened in that room was a masterpiece", Harbaugh said. "It just seems like Leighton is exactly like the rest of them, has a little chip on his shoulder and is a driven guy".

Newsome will be succeeded by assistant GM Eric DeCosta. "And in order for us to win this year, we need Joe Flacco", he said. "It was just really phenomenal to be able to move down the way we did, pick up the picks we did, and then add the talent that we did..."

Jackson (6-foot-2, 216 pounds) was an unprecedented force at Louisville, finishing his 38-game career with 119 touchdowns, killing defenses deep with the pass and making limbs buckle left and right as a runner, often appearing more an apparition than a football player.
