Even a Georgia hospital says it truly is treating nine travellers - for example one in critical condition - that have been injured when a constitution bus overturned along the best way into the Masters golf tournament.

Steven F Hoppenbrouwer, 61, was taking a group of 18 people to the Masters Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club when the bus flipped over on I-20 in Columbia County around 8:45am.

Passengers on the bus told Georgia State Patrol officers they were bound for Augusta when the bus overturned on Interstate 20 in Columbia County, according to a statement from the Department of Public Safety.

Authorities say Hoppenbrouwer ran off the side of the road and overcorrected before the bus overturned on the median. That's in addition to charges of driving under the influence and failure to maintain lane that the bus driver was jailed on Thursday.

Several passengers were taken to the hospital, but troopers said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

At least 17 of the 18 passengers were treated for injuries at area hospitals. Time to lock this alchy bus driver up for life. He said jail records did not list an attorney for Hoppenbrouwer. He said: "It's not the way we planned the day".

All seven people being treated at AUMC are adults.

Operated by Jet Executive Limousine of metro Atlanta, the charter bus "was set up like a party limousine in the back", Wright said.

A person who answered the phone at the business declined to comment, saying the company was "in the dark" about the details of what happened. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
