Syria is a signatory to the 1970 non-proliferation treaty.

"The message from the 2007 attack on the reactor is that Israel will not tolerate construction that can pose an existential threat", military chief Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot said in Wednesday's statement. Damascus said that the destroyed complex was a military site under construction.

The raid on Syria marked the second time Israel's military has destroyed the nuclear power generation capabilities of a neighbor in the region.

Had there been an active reactor there, the IDF, it would have had "severe strategic implications on theentire Middle East as well as Israel and Syria".

Several months after the strike, the United States announced that intelligence indicated the site was a nuclear reactor with military objective.

In February, the conflict between Israel and Iran in Syria escalated.

The new declassified materials included photographs and cockpit video said to show the moment that an airstrike targeted Syria's Al-Kubar facility.

Through the bombing of the reactor at the time, "the Israeli government, the Israeli army and the Mossad [spy agency] prevented Syria from developing nuclear capabilities", Netanyahu said.

Labor concedes South Australian election
The Liberal Party claimed 24 seats in the election, while Labor and Independent MPs secured 18 and three respectively. Meanwhile, Premier-elect Steven Marshall has promised a "new dawn" for South Australia following his party's victory.

Four F-16s and four F-15s were involved in the strike, with the operation beginning at 10:30 pm on September 5 and the planes returning at 2:30 am the following day.

Israel determined that the alleged reactor was "totally disabled, and that the damage done was irreversible".

However, Barak claims he delayed the operation so that the Israel Air Force could mount the best possible orchestrated attack.

The attack, which was monitored from the aerial war room by all key political and military officials at the time, including Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, took about four hours to complete.

Israel and Syria have always been bitter enemies.

Both Iran and Hezbollah are allied with Syrian President Bashar Assad. Israel has also been providing medical treatment to the extremist militants wounded in Syria. He said he hoped President Donald Trump's demand to fix or nix the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran would resolve the Iranian threat, but warned: "The State of Israel makes clear, and I'm saying here in the clearest way, if it's a case of a nuclear Iran or action, we will take action".

Israel has admitted that it bombed what is said to have been Syrian nuclear reactor over a decade ago, and today said that the strike should be a warning to Iran against pursuing its nuclear weaponry ambitions, according to Reuters.
