After a fractured mandate, the NPP, which won 19 seats, wooed regional parties - United Democratic Party (6), People's Democratic Front (4) and Hill State People's Democratic Party (2).

BJP has appointed Union Ministers - Nitin Gadkari and Jual Oram - as Central Observers to help facilitate the election of BJP legislature party leader in the state.

This discontentment came a day after the HSPDP agreed to form a coalition government in the state led by the NPP with the support of UDP, People's Democratic Front (PDF), BJP and one independent. "HSPDP says "no" to be in the Regional Democratic Alliance if BJP is part of the Alliance".
