"Icarus", an original documentary produced by Netflix in which a Londoner features prominently, has won the Oscar for best documentary.

"We dedicate this award to Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov - a fearless whistleblower who now lives in grave danger", Fogel said.

The win at Oscars 2018 is the second Oscar for Netflix in as many years, following its win in Documentary Short Subject category for The White Helmets in 2017.

Icarus managed to beat fellow documentaries Abacus, Last Men in Aleppo, Strong Island and Face Places to the award with Fogel praising the work of the now-hidden Rochenkov. "We hope Icarus is a wake-up call - yes, about Russian Federation, but more importantly, about telling the truth". The film's director initially wanted to see if he could get away with doping in a professional sport, but he ended up unearthing one of the biggest sports scandals ever. Russian Federation has continued to deny the existence of a state-sponsored doping programme, instead blaming Rodchenkov for acting on his own, who remains in danger.

With 10 seconds remaining on the clock and the Gophers leading by one point, the Hawkeyes had possession of the ball. It was unbelievable we were in the game but we were because of our strong shooting. "But, we shot it well".

As the filmmakers continued to interview Rodchenkov, their work became integral to building outcry around the world against Russian Federation, which, as a result, was banned from this year's recently concluded Winter Olympics.

"And here, after 12 or more years of chasing Lance Armstrong since 1999, with him being the "most tested athlete on planet earth", this guy had still never failed a drug test". He said he remains in fear of his life and under the protection of the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Netflix-backed film by Bryan Fogel and Dan Cogan originally set out to chart the progress of Fogel as he took performance-enhancing substances to prepare for the amateur Haute Route cycling event.
