Woods, 42, announced in a tweet that he plans to play in the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook, followed by the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill the following week.

"How high he can get, I don't know, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if he made a run". It marked his best PGA Tour result since a tie for 10th at the 2015 Wyndham Championship.

"He's close to winning a golf tournament", said former PGA Tour victor and Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee. "It's probably a tie between his club head speed and his ability to get the ball up and down again that surprise me the most".

It's just great to see him back.

Presuming he completes these two events, Woods will have played five tournaments before the Masters.

Tiger Woods' return to golf has been a positive one with the 14-time major victor recently earning his first top-15 finish since 2015.

Woods had surgery on his troublesome back last April and was sidelined for nearly 10 months.

"It's a good place to work on all parts of your game", the former world No. 1 said. That was the goal when I first came back. "He's certainly getting bad close terrible quickly". He would normally get his pre-Masters work in at this week's WGC Mexico Championship or the WGC Dell Match Play at the end of March, but because his world ranking is so low, he is unable to get into those tournaments.

In addition to his four Masters titles, Woods has won the PGA Championship four times, the U.S. Open three times and the British Open three times.

Sharma, who entered the week ranked first on the European Tour after early-season victories in South Africa and Malaysia, said: "I've definitely proven to myself I belong here and I can play with the big boys".
