JR Smith suspended over throwing bowl of soup

JR Smith has been with the Cleveland Cavaliers since 2015What's the story? He declined to speak to the media, telling team officials he will talk at shootaround before Saturday's home game against the Denver Nuggets. He did this in just 22 minutes play and rightfully so.

An explanation of what pushed J.R. Smith over the edge, or at the very least a public apology, will have to wait another day. He was hired as an assistant coach for the Cavs' G-League affiliate in 2015 and joined the Cleveland staff at the start of last season.

The 14-year veteran has struggled much of this season, but he had been playing better lately. Smith, who shoots 70% of his shots from downtown, is far less effective if he isn't connecting on these shots. Smith is averaging 8.3 points in 56 games. It looks like Smith will be back at practice today according to Coach Lue, but the suspension will cost Smith $94,897. Rodney Hood and Kyle Korver could both serve as quality replacements for Smith.

An emotional player and person, Smith was clearly bothered by the arrival before the season of Dwyane Wade, who briefly took his starting spot.

JR Smith didn't make demands of the front office.
