Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's brother and Punjab Province Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif is likely to become the interim president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He is the younger brother of Nawaz Sharif, who had to resign as prime minister in July past year in the high-profile Panama Papers scandal.

The important decisions were taken a week after the Supreme Court ordered that ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif be removed as head of the political party he founded, six months after the court disqualified him as the country's leader over unreported income. Nawaz presided over the meeting that was also attended by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

The announcement was made in PML-N's Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting which was held in Lahore and was presided by the country's former premier Nawaz Sharif, reported the Express Tribune.

"Nawaz Sharif will work as a life leader of the party", said senior party official Mushahidullah Khan.

Under the party's rules, the PML-N's CWC is supposed to elect an acting party head within a week of its chief's removal.

Iran threatens to leave nuclear deal 'if no benefit'
Iran's deputy foreign minister said he did not believe the deal could survive without the US. As a result, the economic gains Iran expected after it signed the deal have been stymied.

Acording to Geo News, Shehbaz Sharif, who is said to be a consensus choice for the top party position, will become permanent president after intra-party elections are held within 45 days.

"So, the party is going ahead with its main candidate for party presidency even for the acting president slot", a source said.

Keeping this technical issue in mind, the PML-N's information secretary said that only those CWC members who were elected before the July 28 decision had been called for Tuesday's meeting.

The apex court's verdict was in response to 17 petitions challenging the controversial Elections Act 2017, which had been bulldozed through parliament past year to pave the way for Nawaz's return to the PML-N's helm as party president.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar declares that any person disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution is barred from holding the position of head of a political party.
