The Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command investigated the letter containing white powder after it was sent to St. James Palace on February 12, The Telegraph reported. The incident sparked a security scare, with officers from the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command being called in for a check on the substance, which turned out to be non-harmful.

The Evening Standard in London reports that the letter was also understood to have contained a racist message.

The suspicious letter was intercepted by staff at the nearby St James's Palace.

Kensington Palace announced today that the royal foursome will attend the first annual Royal Foundation Forum on Wednesday, February 28.

A day later police revealed a similar package containing white powder had been sent to the Houses of Parliament.

Police would not say who the envelope was addressed to but said tests showed the substance to be non-suspicious.

"Officers are also investigating an allegation of malicious communications which relates to the same package, and it is being treated as a racist hate crime", it said.

But analysis of the powder found that it was harmless.

"Prince Harry is anxious about Ms Markle's safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her", Knauf said then. Markle, a successful actor, is from a mixed-race background.

Detectives have now launched an investigation to track down the sender of the letters but have made no arrests.

The letter has raised concerns about security at Harry and Meghan's wedding on Saturday, May 19.

The incident has reportedly put Scotland Yard on high alert ahead of the Royal Wedding in May.
