Mega Millions, Powerball offer big jackpots for holiday weekend

The $1 million prize automatically becomes $2 million with Power Play.

Powerball offers two jackpot payment options: the $300 million jackpot prize paid over 29 years in 30 graduated payments; or the cash option, which is approximately $191 million.

Mega Millions, Powerball and Megabucks Doubler drawings are all available via the Lottery's website - masslottery.com, and can also be viewed on the Lottery's official Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts. The current largest MI win was in April 2005, when a Port Huron couple, Ralph and Mary Stebbins, won $208 million. On Saturday, December 23rd the Powerball jackpot will reach $300 million.

The game is played in 44 states; Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico; and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

A ticket with five numbers in Friday evening's drawing of the multi-state Mega Millions lottery was sold at a market in the tiny mountain community of Julian and is worth $1,298,334. The odds of winning the jackpot with a $2 ticket are 1 in 292,201,338.
