How will federal officials investigate Amtrak derailment?

On WSDOT's website is a notice to "watch for Amtrak Cascades trains running along I-5", saying the new route takes an "inland corridor".

An Amtrak train has derailed on a bridge over a highway in Pierce County, Wash., prompting a major emergency response from local authorities.

Injuries have been reported in the derailment of a passenger Amtrak train near Olympia.

Several train cars fell onto the road below, killing at least six people and striking multiple road vehicles in the process.

Six died on February 3, 2015 outside New York City when a packed commuter train and a auto which was crossing the track collided, leaving six dead and 15 injured.

On Monday, Amtrak inaugurated service through the new Point Defiance Bypass near Tacoma, Washington.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said the National Transportation Safety Board is now charged with a thorough investigation.

"We will do everything in our power to support these passengers, our employees and their families".

"Come back when there is that accident, and try to justify not putting in those safety enhancements", he said, according to KOMO News. "We are committed to taking care of them and providing the highest level of assistance possible during their time of need", the statement said.

"I'm not sure what happened", he said.
