The US President - who received the accolade previous year, has tweeted to say "probably" wasn't good enough, so he "took a pass". Trump said in a tweet.

But added that they had also requested for an interview and photo shoot.

However, the publication turned down the President's claims, saying the award victor will only be declared on December 6.

"Hate to tell you but that PROBABLY means you're NOT Person of the Year", he wrote. According to Trump, however, "probably" wasn't good enough.

"Thank you @oreillyfactor for your wonderful editorial as to why I should have been @TIME Magazine's Person of the Year".

Time magazine did not immediately respond to Trump's tweet.

However, Time responded shortly afterwards, accusing the United States president of misrepresenting them.

Ready, set, shop! Black Friday shopping frenzy at local stores
Black Friday 2017 is loaded with fantastic TV deals , and Amazon has some of the lowest prices out there. Most of the Walmart Black Friday 2017 deals will be available online this year.

Trump has had a long-running obsession with TIME - and the magazine's choice for man/person of the year - that predates his political career.

Time Inc.'s chief content officer, Alan Murray, also took a dig at President's tweet and stated that it didn't have "a speck of truth".

Bbc just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. Shortly after his election last year, Mr Trump complained to a crowd of supporters that the magazine should return to calling it's award "Man of the Year".

Before he won "Person of the Year", Mr Trump hung a fake Time Magazine cover in several of his golf clubs, declaring him "a television smash!" "You should run Time!".

Other prominent personalities and groups that has been recognised with such award include Barrack Obama, former USA president (2012), Pope Francis (2013), Ebola fighters (2014), and Angela Merkel (2015).

Time's Person of the Year is defined by the weekly as "a person (or people) who has had the most influence over the news in the last 12 months".
