Ohio's unemployment rate is a full percentage point higher than the USA unemployment rate, which was 4.1% in October, down from 4.2% in September and 4.8% in October 2016.

The rate decreased one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.7 percent last month. "This grew the labor force and factored into the unemployment rate dropping to 3.6 percent, the lowest it has been since August 2000".

The Kansas Department of Labor said preliminary estimates showed that the private-sector employment market had lost 1,700 jobs since September and 4,700 jobs since October 2016.

The statewide figures put Nebraska in good company among states with the country's lowest unemployment rates.

Shelby County in metro Birmingham has the state's lowest jobless rate at 2.6 percent, and Wilcox County in western Alabama is highest at 8.9 percent.

The rate drop reflected a decline in the number of unemployed Iowans to about 51,000 in October.

Across the state, job gains were recorded in the leisure and hospitality industry (1,000), construction (800) and information (200). Employment and unemployment were both down, as well.

Job losses were reported in manufacturing (100); financial activities (300); trade, transportation and utilities (500); professional and business services (500); and educational and health services (600).

On the Kansas side of the Kansas City metropolitan area, unemployment fell two-tenths of a point, to 3.1 percent.
