"Eventually, Mathews no longer felt a pulse on the child and believed she had died", stated the document.

The cause of death was still pending, the Richardson Police Department said on its Facebook page, citing the Dallas County Medical Examiners Office.

The affidavit does not say whether Mathews told police he administered any medical aid to the child.

Mathews has been charged with injury to a child, which is a first-degree felony and is punishable by up to life in prison, The Washington Post reported.

People who live in the neighbourhood stopped their cars or their daily walks Tuesday to see the ditch where Sherin's body was found. Wesley's wife Sini Mathews was in the house at the time but was reportedly asleep and unaware of what her husband was doing.

He indicated that the league's ultimate goal is for protests to end. "We did not ask for that", he said , as quoted by CBS News. The president originally suggested that players unwilling to stand be fired.

After almost two weeks of searching by police using drones, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and volunteers, her body was found on Sunday in a ditch near their house in the city near Dallas. He told police that he had ordered her to stand near a tree outside of their home at about 3 a.m.as punishment for not drinking her milk, and that she was gone when he went to check on her about 15 minutes later. Mathews told police Sherin lagged developmentally and was malnourished when they adopted her. Previously, Mathews was free on bond after being charged with abandoning or endangering a child.

This week, Mathews shared a different narrative, saying he tried to get the three-year-old girl "to drink her milk in the garage" in the middle of the night but Sherin would not comply. "Let's just try our best to breathe and regroup to focus our energy back on this little girl, this princess and find ways to seek her justice as best and as quick as possible", said vigil organiser Omair Siddiqi.

Sherin was adopted by Mathews-couple in June, 2016 from India. The Nalanda district police superintendent Sudheer Kumar Porikha said that in most case, the authorities were not informed when kids were adopted from child care centers. The police earlier announced that they discovered the remains of a child in a tunnel beneath a road, expressing apprehension that it was "most likely" that of Sherin.

Wesley Mathews, left, and his wife, Sini Mathews, right, leave a CPS hearing Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 where they planned to ask that custody of their biological 4-year-old daughter be returned. It states that the accused told police that his daughter choked on milk in the wee hours of October 7 and he "believed she had died".

Sini Mathews helped identify the body but police said her cooperation with the investigation has been minimal. This is a developing story.
