We are fully aware that in this culture war he has cynically escalated, Trump has the support of millions of fans, who just want the multi-millionaires on their teams to stand up, put their hands on heart, and sing.

President Trump launched a petition to stand for the national anthem. It alienates too many patriotic people of good will who bristle at what they perceive as disrespect of the country's basic symbols. Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning. The disapproval is even higher among white Americans and Republicans - groups that are overwhelmingly pro-Trump and overlap considerably since 8 in 10 Republicans are white.

Trump has been attacking NFL players for silently protesting the killing of Black people by police, along with protesting racial oppression and inequality by "taking a knee" instead of standing during the playing of the National Anthem.

"We believe everyone should stand for the National Anthem", Goodell told reporters. "That's an important part of our policy".

He indicated that the league's ultimate goal is for protests to end. "We did not ask for that", he said, as quoted by CBS News.

She says changing regulations aren't enough and that Congress must pass a law to ensure permanent changes. The devices were found on several of the weapons in the assailant's Las Vegas hotel room.

But that's where the unity between the two sides appears to end.

Trump set off a wave of protest across the National Football League after he called for players who kneel to be fired, saying owners should "get that son of a b***h off the field" during a September rally. "We spent today talking about the issues that players have been trying to bring attention to - issues to make our communities better. that was the entire focus of today". And we're going to continue to work on these issues within the community. Stand for the National Anthem. The president originally suggested that players unwilling to stand be fired. And the commissioner reiterated that quite clearly Wednesday.

This country was formed by protest against the government.

Regardless of how Trump handles this, there is one battle that Goodell is definitely losing - and that's the fight for neutrality.
