Food quality was satisfactory, says Railways inquiry report

"The passengers were taken to government and private hospitals", the official said. Their condition is not serious, Konkan Railway Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Gupta told PTI.

"The Konkan Railway officials had arranged first aid and ambulances for the passengers".

In an unfortunate incident that took place on the Tejas Express, about 26 passengers suffered food poisoning after consuming IRCTC catered food. A show cause notice has been served on the catering contractor and strict action is contemplated if found guilty.

Railway further added that feedback about quality of food from other passengers was taken and nearly all passengers gave satisfactory feedback.

On Sunday, passengers travelling in three to four different coaches of the fully air-conditioned luxury train fell ill and complained of nausea, uneasiness and vomiting after they consumed breakfast and soup served on the train, soon after it left its starting station Karmali in Goa.

Tejas Express, one of the premium trains of the Indian Railways, connects Mumbai with Karmali.

A group of seven passengers complained of nausea and were attended to by onboard supervisor.

It said that the statement from a tour group from Kolkata, which didn't complain about food quality, was also recorded.

The official statement by the committee said that the feedback from passengers over the quality of food was satisfactory.

All passengers, except a six-year-old, were admitted to Lifecare Sciences Hospital in Chiplun, Ratnagiri district. "It is a regular protocol followed by the IRCTC during such incidents." said the official.

IRCTC tweeted, "Dear Sir/Ma'am, We understand your concern.We would like to assure you that all the passengers now hospitalized are out of danger and the same has been confirmed by hospital authorities". The 20-coach Tejas Express was the first Indian Railways' train to have automatic doors and secured gangways for all coaches.
