Liverpool are understood to be furious with Barcelona after they publicly declared their intentions to try and sign Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window.

Should Jurgen Klopp's side take him into consideration it could see Paulinho take a similar career path to Coutinho, who moved to Europe to join Internazionale as a 16-year-old in 2008, five years before joining Liverpool for £8.5m.

The secret deal says Coutinho continues to play with Liverpool as long as he is allowed to fly to Barcelona in January.

The Catalan giants made repeated attempts to sign Coutinho (above) in the summer but were ultimately rebuffed, with the Reds rejecting their final bid of £117million and remaining adamant they have no desire to sell.

Barcelona enjoyed a fruitless pursuit of Brazil global Coutinho in the summer transfer window, with Liverpool rejecting a final bid from the Catalans that was believed to be in excess of 120million euros.

"Right now there is nothing planned for the January window".

'We want to have the most competitive squad possible'.

Now the Spanish publication claims that Coutinho has "an ace up his sleeve" to make that move due to an agreement he reached with Liverpool in which the Anfield club promised to let him go if Barcelona make an acceptable offer. We will be ready to recruit in January. Liverpool's position has not changed and they are furious about Grau's comments.

It would be a big move, swapping his homeland for Brazil, but if Coutinho does move on he may find it hard to replace a man he is likely to idolise given the latter's own journey.
