Malaysia GP: Sebastian Vettel unhappy with Fernando Alonso

It was Max Verstappen who came home with the win at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

With Verstappen all but safe, the fight was for Ricciardo to finish in pole as he beat Bottas but was put under tremendous pressure by back-row starter Vettel late in the race, who drove superbly.

Verstappen had control of the race from when he had a comfortable lead of 3.7 seconds from lap 11 onwards to a 9.5 second lead with just six laps to go in the race. I was very happy when I crossed the line and, together with my dad, I got this far.

"But our race speed was comparable, because in the end Sebastian was on supersoft tyres, and you saw that, when he was catching Ricciardo, he went too close and he ruined his front tyres, so that's why he had to stop his attack".

"I'm hoping it's not like this at the next few races".

Hamilton seemed nearly certain to significantly extend his lead at the top of the championship, but a combination of his own lack of pace and Vettel's relentless charge into the top four reduced the impact of the qualifying no-show. Both Red Bulls showed great pace throughout the race as Verstappen took the chequered flag 12 seconds clear of Hamilton.

"On paper the Ferrari is the fastest vehicle, followed by the Red Bull and then us", the Austrian had observed after qualifying.

The storm is slowly moving northward well offshore in the Atlantic, kicking up large ocean swells along much of the U.S. Schools were closed Tuesday in all of Dare County because of expected tropical storm conditions.

Verstappen's second F1 win means Hamilton extends his championship lead over Vettel from 28 to 34 points with five races remaining.

Earlier in the day, FP3 was dominated by Ferrari, with Mr. Raikkonen setting the fastest time ahead of Mr. Vettel, who's engine broke down at the end of the session and could not be replaced in time for a qualifying run. I have a good feeling about it.

Sebastian finished in fourth place followed by Mercedes Valtteri Bottas.

The most important takeaway from all this is that Hamilton is now up 35 points in the championship race. There are some really big problems which I can't really explain.

"We still have problems with this vehicle and it was magnified here", Hamilton said. "I think it's all fine, I don't see that we have an issue".

"I said when Max's luck would change it would change in a dramatic way and it's hard to believe the last time he was on the podium was at the beginning of April in China".

The second Ferrari of Raikkonen had qualified second but the Finn did not make the start due to a battery issue - although Vettel is unconcerned by the reliability. We appreciate you guys having us and all the support you've given us.
