These businesses also provide employment for many thousands of people, including his children.

New York Times labeled Trump's behavior on the meeting as a change of heart on his chameleon-like attitude to the media.

A report by the Washington Post suggests Donald Trump is skipping most daily intelligence briefings while Mike Pence is attending. "There's never been a case like this". "I would be guided by that", he said.

Ahead of his surprise win in the November 8 vote, the brash NY billionaire had also vowed to dismantle domestic regulations for curbing C02 emissions which, he claimed, put USA companies at a competitive disadvantage.

He also criticized Representative Joe Heck of Nevada, who vacillated over supporting Trump after an 11-year-old recording surfaced in which Trump bragged in lewd terms about grabbing women without their consent. Enthusiastic Trump supporters needed little encouragement to chant "Lock her up" at rallies. And I don't want to hurt the Clintons.

However, the editorial board explained that it is unbiased, but still very doubtful of Trump.

Maybe the president-elect really does get it.

Whether or not this was the reason Trump changed his stance on climate change, nobody could tell.

In 2012, he had brushed off that idea as a Chinese hoax, tweeting: "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make USA manufacturing non-competitive". He even went so far as to add that he wants to keep an "open mind" regarding the pull of the United States out of the Paris Agreement. The deal negotiated by almost 200 countries past year commits them to a global push to reduce greenhouse gases.

During the campaign, Trump said he would abandon those pledges. The details of his future plans are unknown, but we certainly know over these next 65 days [until the inauguration] he will be here regularly.

Trump signaled another shift on the question of how to treat terrorism suspects.

"Give me a pack of cigarettes and a couple of beers, and I'll do better", Trump said Mattis had told him so. They, again, I don't know if it's reporting or whatever.

On the issue of torture, Trump suggested he had changed his mind about the value of waterboarding after talking with James N. Mattis, a retired Marine Corps general, who headed the United States Central Command.

Torture, he said, is "not going to make the kind of a difference that a lot of people are thinking".

■ Trump expressed confidence that he could do business with the Republican-controlled Congress. Presidential candidates and presidents must disclose their finances, but the president is not covered by the principal financial conflict-of-interest law, and the relevant regulations specifically exclude the president.

His election, Trump acknowledged, has been good for his business, making the name that he emblazons on his properties and markets through his licensing agreements "a hotter brand than it was before".

The concern is to avoid running afoul - in actuality or appearance - of laws against bribery and other forms of corruption in dealings with corporations, foreign entities and powerful interests.

■ When Trump was asked whether he condemned an alt-right conference over the weekend in Washington, where some attendees raised their arms in a Hitler-like salute, he said, "I disavow and condemn them".
