The women's cross-country team won the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship Friday in Iowa City, Iowa, and qualified for its first National Championship since 2004.

The women's 6K race is set for 11 a.m., on the Van Cortlandt Park course, a course the Red Storm is very familiar with.

Schweizer added her historic SEC championship, the third of four wins for her this season, gave her confidence when she was in a big pack midway through the race.

The Georgetown men, tabbed No. 22 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), won back-to-back crowns for the first time since the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Schweizer, who hails from Urbandale, Iowa, edged a Kansas entrant to claim the title in 19 minutes, 54.4 seconds. Tromp has finished first for the Cardinals in three of their last four races. For KU, it was the best showing for a women's runner at an NCAA regional since Melissa Swartz's runner-up showing in 1994.

NCAA Championships will be held in Terre Haute, Ind., on November 19.

New York Yankees Are Already in Touch with Aroldis Chapman
The Yankees started last season with Chapman, Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances , but the rest of the roster wasn't strong enough. It'll probably be wiser for them to spend their money on upgrading the rotation, with Masahiro Tanaka , Michael Pineda and C.C.

"Regionals is a "do or die" type of meet for many teams, and you can feel that excitement, confidence, determination, and nerves coming from other teams", Garippo said. The two came in 20th and 21st, respectively.

Senior Spencer Nousain was the top runner for CMU with a time of 32:19 to take 82nd.

Texas took second in the men's race with 81 points and Baylor was second in the women's race with 62 points to also earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.

Rounding out Marquette's top finishers were sophomore Nora Keller (22:20.9) and junior Meghan Carroll (22:24.0), who placed 113th and 117th overall. The Gusties tallied 227 points, putting them 39 points behind fifth place Luther College which tallied a 188.

Drake University senior and reigning Missouri Valley Conference champion Reed Fischer earned a long-coveted spot at nationals with a seventh-place finish in the 10k race in 30:29.8.

Now, after a couple of weeks of rest, the team will hope to recreate its performance and best its sixth-place finish from past year as it visits the historic Van Cortland Park in New York on Friday to compete in the regional tournament. James Hampton placed 49th at 31:17.2. Quinlan Moll was the second UMKC entrant across the line at 31:35 for 64th. Young finished in 31:21.70. "They are one of the best, if not the best team in the country". Tulsa was second and IL was third. Of the top 10 teams in the field, GU nabbed the second-smallest spread with Princeton's eighth-place team showcasing a 37-second spread.
