In campaign's final days, Clinton gets FBI reprieve _ again

In July, Comey said Clinton had been careless but not criminal in handling sensitive material on her private e-mail server as Secretary of State.

FBI Director James Comey testifies during a hearing before House Oversight and Government Reform Committee July 7, 2016 on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

The news comes after the FBI announced it would review a new batch of emails that appeared to be "pertinent" to the investigation that was suspended in July which had looked into Clinton's use of a private server.

On October 28, Comey wrote to Congress that the FBI was going to investigate emails potentially related to Clinton that had been found during an unrelated investigation. "I am very grateful to the professionals at the Federal Bureau of Investigation for doing an extraordinary amount of high-quality work in a short period of time", Comey said, according to Reuters.

Investors had been unnerved by signs of a tightening presidential race between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, whose stance on foreign policy, trade and immigration has rippled through financial markets. It's unclear how numerous remaining voters will absorb news of Comey's latest announcement, which came less than 48 hours before polls open for traditional, in-person voting.

"During that process, we reviewed all of the communications that were to or from Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state", Comey said.

"She's protected by a rigged system", he said. Clinton's former vast lead over Trump has shrunk, with a new ABC News/Washington Post poll putting the former Secretary of State only 5 points ahead of her spray-tan-obssesed-tax-evading-softcore-porn-star opponent.

Trump's campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told reporters Sunday that Trump planned to keep up the breakneck campaign pace through Election Day.

This close to Election Day, it's impossible to know before results are tallied what impact Comey's actions - first raising a vaguely worded red flag 11 days out, and then lowering it two days from the election - will have on the contest. Despite being vastly more qualified than Trump - who, let's be real, is less qualified than a pinecone to be president - Americans are choosing to vote for Trump or to not vote at all because of the pervasiveness of the NeverEnding Story of Hillary Clinton's Emails.

The FBI new investigation may solidify Trump's base and dampen enthusiasm among Clinton supporters, causing some of them to stay home on the November 8 Election Day, experts said last week.

"While the original letter should never have been sent so close to an election, the expeditious review of these emails should put to rest the irresponsible speculation indulged in by the Trump campaign and others", he said.
